The Great Pyramid of Giza
It is the one and only Wonder which does not require a description by early historians and poets. It is the one and only Wonder that does not need speculations concerning its appearance, size, and shape. It is the oldest, yet it is the only surviving of the Seven Ancient Wonders. It is the Great Pyramid of Giza.
Location:
At the city of Giza, a necropolis of ancient Memphis, and today part of Greater Cairo, Egypt.
History
Contrary to the common belief, only the Great Pyramid of Khufu (Cheops), not all three Great Pyramids, is on top of the list of Wonders. The monument was built by the Egyptian pharaoh Khufu of the Fourth Dynasty around the year 2560 BC to serve as a tomb when he dies. The tradition of pyramid building started in Ancient Egypt as a sophistication of the idea of a mastaba or “platform” covering the royal tomb. Later, several stacked mastabas were used. Early pyramids, such as the Step Pyramid of King Zoser (Djoser) at Saqqara by the famous Egyptian architect, Imhotep, illustrate this connection. continue reading »

What is friendship? -Meaning of Friendship
What is friendship? What is the meaning of this relationship? We have often sought answers to these questions, yet we have never come up with an adequate answer. This is because this relationship is an amalgamation of beautiful and complex feelings, which may not often be described in words. Defining a relationship is never easy, as there are so many facets to it. However we don’t need a bunch of words to make us realize the deep meaning of friendship.
According to George Elliot “Friendship is the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with a person, having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words.”
This heartwarming expression captures the essence of friendship. When two people share a strong bond of mutual understanding, respect and love it lays the foundation stone for an everlasting friendship. This bond just gets stronger with time; the trust between the two people grows and so does the attachment. This is the beauty of the relationship and is the essential meaning of friendship.
Being friends means being there for each other at all times, whether it’s good or bad. A friend needs to be very understanding and give each other the benefit of the doubt. Ideally the meaning of friendship is sharing unconditional love for each other. However this is not an ideal world; therefore some form of expectations are allowed, but that has a limit too. The purpose and meaning of friendship is to make life’s burdens lighter for our friends and not make them heavier. The Roman thinker Cicero said “Friendship makes prosperity brighter, while it lightens adversity by sharing its griefs and anxieties.”

Sikkim, the landlocked state in the Himalayas, is one of the least populated states in India and a haven for tourists from all across the world. The state and its fantastic locations have attracted me over and over again. So, I felt that instead of sharing an encyclopedic description of my visit to the state, I would share some personal experiences for all the readers to plan a visit to this part of the world.

Though the capital of Sikkim is Gangtok, I preferred to stay away from staying there. The commercialization of the capital towns has induced influx of people and establishment even in Gangtok. So, I took a detour and went to Pelling, a small hamlet in West Sikkim. At an altitude of 2150 m it is the perfect place for nature loving tourists who want to avoid the hustle bustle of the crowd in tourist destinations. continue reading »
